It has been a puppy-filled spring here at Sharptail Ridge! We had two litters around Christmas time, and the puppies are all gone now. Several of the pups have stayed on for a few weeks to a month for some beginner training. Mom has enjoyed having them in the house to begin potty training, and she works with them twice daily on basic obedience. One of our puppies is even going to Texas this year! She’s been named Dixie, and she’s already been to the vet to get her special flying papers.
The snow has stayed around much longer this year than last year, so when training officially starts this June, it’ll probably still be a little soggy. Good thing the dogs love water! Riley, our new stud, is still just a pup yet. Water will be a new experience for him this summer. We’ll be training him in obedience first, and also to do retrieves. Of course, he’ll get hunting training too, just like each of our dogs. And he’s already getting lots of love: they all become one of the family. Riley has been staying in the basement most of the winter and already has a head start on currying favor and attention. 🙂
